Are you going to the Dominican Republic? These mobile apps will make your stay easier! Would you like to order food with delivery? Or maybe you’re wondering about late-night transportation, planning your return to the hotel after a day of sightseeing? In terms of such facilities, the Dominican Republic is no different from the US or Europe, and visitors can do many things online – from ordering a cheeseburger to taking care of official matters.
In this post, we have prepared for you a list of 6 popular mobile apps that will make it easier for you to place orders online or organize trips during your stay in the Dominican Republic.
MOBILE APPS FOR FOOD AND DRINK DELIVERY
PedidosYa is one of the most popular apps for ordering meals from local restaurants (but not only) in 15 countries in Latin America. You can place an order using a computer or phone, through an application dedicated to both iOS and Android. PedidosYa allows not only the delivery of meals to your door, but also a number of other services. You can shop in pharmacies, grocery stores and specialty stores (including those offering electronics, tobacco or cosmetics). You can pay for the order upon receipt, as well as online. PedidosYa collects a service fee for using the platform, which is charged during the finalization of the order.
It is also worth adding that Uber Eats operates in the Dominican Republic, but the list of cities where you can use the application is definitely shorter than in the case of PedidosYa. MOBILE APPLICATIONS FOR ORGANIZING RIDES
At the very beginning, it is worth emphasizing that the DiDi application is currently available only in two cities: Santiago de los Caballeros and Santo Domingo (Servicios de DiDi por Ciudad. | DiDi República Dominican (didiglobal.com). The application is available for both iOS and Android devices. As part of the service offered by DiDi, there are several travel options best suited to the needs of passengers, such as DiDi Econo (the cheapest option), DiDi Express (more expensive version) or DiDi Moto, where the passenger travels with the driver on a scooter. According to the current* information provided on the company’s website, two of the above options are currently available in the Dominican Republic: DiDi Express and DiDi Moto (¿Tienes Preguntas sobre DiDi? Drivers RD – an application for ordering rides, was designed exclusively for the Dominican market. The creators emphasize the advantages of the Drivers RD service, such as the safety of journeys, wide availability of the service and the possibility of using 24-hour journeys all year round. You can use the application in Santo Domingo, La Romana, Puerto Plata, Santiago de los Caballeros and Punta Cana. Drivers RD is constantly expanding the list of cities where you can use their services, and according to the information provided on the website, their offer will soon also be available in: San Cristobal, Higüey, La Vega, El Seibo, Moca, San Pedro de Macoris or Monte Plata (Drivers RD – Cobertura – all future news should appear under this link).
Depending on your needs, you can choose from three travel options:
- Regular/VIP – an offer dedicated to 1-3 passengers with a maximum of 2 suitcases – in this case, prices start from 75 pesos, i.e. about $1.3.
- Jipeta – an offer dedicated to 1-5 passengers with a maximum of 4 suitcases – in this case, prices start from 300 pesos, i.e. about $5.
- Mini Van – an offer dedicated to 1-6 passengers with a maximum of 6 suitcases – in this case, prices start from 600 pesos, i.e. about $10.
- Uber
The Uber app operates in the largest Dominican cities. If you are in Higüey, La Romana, Puerto Plata, Punta Cana, San Pedro de Macorís, Santiago de los Caballeros or Santo Domingo, you can order your ride using Uber.
MOBILE APPLICATIONS FOR MAKING LARGER ONLINE PURCHASES WITH DELIVERY
If you are in Santo Domingo and prefer to entrust someone else with shopping and delivery, Jumbo comes to the rescue! Hipermercados Jumbo delivers shopping to your door within Distrito Nacional and Santo Domingo Este from Monday to Sunday, from 10:00 to 19:00. The delivery fee is 200 pesos (about $3.4) and the minimum order value amounts to 1300 pesos (about $22).
The quite popular Sirena application also operates in a larger number of cities. With its help, you can do grocery shopping online with delivery in the following locations: Distrito Nacional, Santo Domingo Este, Santiago de los Caballeros and Samaná. The delivery fee is 150 pesos (about $2.5) and the minimum order value amounts to 2000 pesos (about $34).
The above list will make your stay in the Dominican Republic easier by helping you with your daily routine. If you don’t know Spanish, there’s no need to worry – most of the listed apps also have an English version.
